My Everyday Figma Tools That Actually Save Time
After years of designing in Figma every day, I've narrowed down my toolkit to the essentials. These are the tools I actually use, not the ones that look cool in a plugins list but never get opened.
Essential Plugins
1. Autoflow
Automatically draws connection arrows between frames. Essential for mapping user flows and showing navigation logic without manually drawing arrows.
2. Image Tracer
Convert any raster image into editable vector paths. Great for turning sketches into editable designs or extracting logos from screenshots.
3. Content Reel
Fill your designs with realistic content, names, avatars, addresses, product names. No more "John Doe" placeholders.
4. Color Styles Importer
Import a color palette from a URL or hex codes and automatically generate a complete color style system.
5. Figma to Code
Export selected elements as React, Vue, or HTML code. Perfect for handing off to developers or testing designs in the browser.
Workflow Shortcuts
- Ctrl/Cmd + D . Duplicate and auto-space
- Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + K . Replace with image
- Ctrl/Cmd + / . Toggle visibility (clean up your canvas)
- N . Toggle layers panel
- T . Text tool (hold while clicking for auto-width)
File Organization System
- Pages: Wireframes → Design → Components → Handoff
- Frames named with page-section-state (e.g.,
Home-Hero-Default) - Components prefixed with category (e.g.,
Button-Primary-Large)
The Real Secret
The best Figma setup isn't about having every plugin, it's about having 5-6 tools you know inside and out. Master a few, skip the rest.
